Basic Functions
The Apprentice Lineman, under direct supervision, performs new construction and maintenance work on overhead and underground distribution and transmission lines under the direct supervision of qualified foremen and journeymen.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work safely in new construction, maintenance, or repair work of energized and de-energized overhead systems.
- Install overhead wire, set poles and anchors, and install transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches, and switchgear.
- Troubleshoot primary and secondary systems, replace cutout fuses, and clear faulted circuits and systems.
- Safely install and remove mechanical jumpers and understand how to obtain a one-shot on a re-closer.
- Climb various types of structures (wood, steel, etc.) and possess necessary tools.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of recent field experience or coursework in the Powerline trade.
- Safety-minded and able to follow safety regulations.
- Valid Driverβs License; Commercial Driverβs License preferred.
- Reliable transportation for travel as needed.
- Willingness to submit to pre-employment, random, and for-cause drug testing.
