Key responsibilities
- Assists in the construction and maintenance of the YVEA transmission and distribution electrical system including:
- Clearing right-of-way, digging pole and anchor holes, framing poles, setting poles and anchors,
- Stringing, sagging, armor rodding, tying in of conductors, making up and installing downguys,
- Installing and maintaining underground equipment, cable and special underground switches.
- Assists with the installation of transformers, transformer banks, breakers, take-off assemblies, services, regulators, streetlights, and related equipment, meters, lightning arrester equipment, etc., on energized or de-energized lines.
- Assists with maintenance and repairs, switching structures and substations. Maintains and tests oil circuit breakers, oil circuit reclosers, sectionalizers, and transformers. Reads operations counters and forwards recorded information.
- Assists in the Patrolling of transmission and distribution lines and reports (in writing) conditions that may need maintenance.
- Assist meter technician in the construction or maintenance of C.T. and P.T. meter installations.
- Is available for standby as needed to assist linemen with trouble calls when required.
- Maintains assigned vehicles and tools in a safe operating condition; refers vehicle repair work to the mechanic in writing.
- Completes all proper reports as relates to job briefings, truck maintenance, daily time and mileage reports, staking sheets, oil samples, switching orders, transformer changes, OCR & sectionalizer changes, pole and underground maintenance reports, outage reports, etc. as required to maintain proper files and documentation.
- In charge of maintaining and testing of rubber goods.
- Performs other miscellaneous duties to accomplish the assigned work, such as loading and unloading poles, transformers, and other material, reads meters, removes for testing or makes field test of meters as required, operates two-way radio, etc.
- Uses communication skills necessary to work with foreman effectively, other line crew personnel, and the general public to meet the goals of the Association.
Key and Experience Skills
- Enrollment and completion of a qualified four-year apprentice lineman/line worker training program.
- Class A CDL with satisfactory driving and safety record.
- Working knowledge of the duties of the position with knowledge or ability to learn RUS construction specifications and a portion of the National Electric Safety Code.
- Manual dexterity to maintain proper safety while performing work from the pole in hooks or in the bucket, while driving the line truck and in normal operation of a winch truck, line construction vehicle(s), snowmobiles, four-wheelers or other tools.
- Ability to read, write, and do arithmetic.
- Ability to communicate clearly.
- Demonstrated ability to follow directions and prioritize job tasks.
- Ability to analyze information and communicate with a variety of co-workers.
- Willingness to attend courses relating to this area of work.
- Willingness to work at either YVEA office as needed.
