Description

The City of Norcross is looking for a Full-time Electric Apprentice Lineman.  The purpose of this position is to learn, through experience and exposure, the duties associated with becoming a Journeyman. This position is intended to be the initial phase (trainee status) on a career track with the Norcross Power Department.  The incumbent in this position will work under daily direction from the supervisor and senior members of the team. The incumbent is expected to learn the duties, gain experience and progress on the career track.

Examples of Duties

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 


  • Maintains line and bucket trucks.
  • Learns to operate all equipment used by the electric department.
  • Handles all poles, i.e., moving, lifting, setting and pulling.
  • Assists in all aspects of the maintenance and construction of electric facilities.
  • Conducts rescue procedures.
  • Learns and utilizes all safe work practices.

Typical Qualifications

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements: 


  • Must have a high school diploma or G.E.D. certificate.
  • Must have the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Should possess some knowledge of methods, materials and tools used in construction and maintenance of power lines.
  • Should have the ability to learn a wide variety of skilled tasks required in line construction and maintenance work.
  • Should have ability and willingness to acquire skills in climbing poles and working at moderate heights with high voltage lines.
  • Should have the ability to learn and observe proper safety precautions, assist in first aid and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
  • Must comply with the U.S. Department of Transportation's Part 382 - Controlled Substances and Alcohol Use and Testing Policy.
  • Possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

Scope and Impact: 

The need for accuracy and effective utilization of accepted programs and routines is high. Errors in judgment will waste resources and adversely impact performance. Incumbent operates independently but work is verified. Content of work priorities are determined by supervision.

Contact is typically with service professionals, co-workers, other employees, and the general public. The nature of the interaction is generally to provide services and resolve problems.
