Position Summary 

As a Journeyman Lineman at Oncor, your duties include performing construction and maintenance of overhead and underground distribution lines and structures in accordance with Oncor Construction Standards Manuals. A Journeyman Lineman shall be proficient in all aspects of line work. Work is performed on conductors and equipment energized at distribution voltages using approved protective equipment. This person will be required to work from wood poles, ladders, and bucket trucks using approved safety practices and rules. 

This on-site position will have an assigned service territory within the Oncor Electric Delivery Company market and will be based out of our Odessa Service Center. 

Responsibilities & Attributes  

  • Provide leadership and training for employees in lower classifications. A Journeyman Lineman shall possess the skills and knowledge needed to lead a crew in the absence of a Crew Supervisor.
  • Work outdoors in all types of weather conditions during both normal and extended working hours.
  • Participate in the scheduled on call rotation and be available for overtime work and 24 hour call out.
  • Perform first responder duties when assigned to a service truck during normal working hours, after hours, and in the on-call rotation.
  • Maintain assigned vehicles and equipment to ensure minimal downtime.
  • Report to the assigned service center within 60 minutes, with 30 minutes or less preferred.
  • Abide by all aspects of the Oncor Code of Conduct.
  • Participate in local safety programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and Outlook.
  • Strong communication skills to perform effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to maintain a positive and collaborative team attitude.
  • Ability to consistently follow safety rules, procedures, and established work practices.

Education & Experience 

  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent, and 4+ years of related distribution utility construction work experience is required.
  • Must have a valid Texas Class A CDL.
  • Applicants with a certificate or degree from an accredited lineman school or an associate’s degree in electrical technology are encouraged to apply.
  • Ability to provide proof of successful lineman and safety training programs.
  • Must be physically able to lift 75 pounds.
  • Must be available for irregular schedules, overtime, and call out as needed.
