Journeyman Lineman
Yampa Valley Electric AssociationYVEA is hiring an experienced Journeyman Lineman to construct, maintain, and repair our transmission and distribution electrical system. This is a hands-on, safety-critical role for a skilled tradesperson who takes pride in quality workmanship and reliable service to the communities we power.
What You'll Do
- Build and maintain the transmission and distribution system - clearing right-of-way, digging pole and anchor holes, framing and setting poles and anchors, stringing and sagging conductors, and installing downguys
- Install and maintain underground equipment, cable, and specialty switches
- Install transformers, transformer banks, breakers, take-off assemblies, services, regulators, streetlights, meters, and lightning arresters on both energized and de-energized lines
- Maintain, test, and repair switching structures, substations, oil circuit breakers, oil circuit reclosers, sectionalizers, and transformers
- Patrol lines, read operations counters, and report conditions needing maintenance
- Perform voltage checks, load surveys, and load balancing
- Support meter technicians with C.T. and P.T. meter installations
- Respond to trouble calls on scheduled standby
- Maintain assigned vehicles, tools, and rubber goods in safe operating condition
- Complete required documentation - job briefings, staking sheets, switching orders, outage reports, and daily time/mileage logs
- Lead and oversee the performance and quality of work for crew members and apprentices
What You Bring
- Strong working knowledge of electrical transmission and distribution systems
- Experience with pole-line construction, underground equipment, and substation maintenance
- Ability to work safely on energized and de-energized lines
- Strong documentation and reporting habits
- Willingness to perform scheduled standby duty
- Leadership skills to guide crew members and apprentices
