Summary of Job

The City of Wisconsin Dells is seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Journeyman Lineman to join our team.  This position assists in the operation, maintenance, and construction of the City's electrical power distribution and does work necessary to ensure the system operates reliably.  Hours are Monday-Friday, 7am to 4pm.  This position starts at: $48.67ph and offers a full benefit package including Wisconsin State Retirement, paid Vacation, Sick Time, 11 paid Holidays and generous Health Insurance benefits.  Applicants must have Journeyman certification to be considered for this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Working knowledge of electric distribution systems.
  • Assists with the construction and maintenance of the electric distribution system both above and below ground.
  • Assist with maintenance of street lighting.
  • Performs hot line work from a bucket truck or on a pole with climbing equipment.
  • Assist with construction and maintenance of water system.
  • Conducts sub-station switching and operations
  • Assists in maintenance of trucks and equipment.
  • Assists with inventory control.
  • Understands and follows proper safety protocol and procedures.
  • Attends proper training.
  • Tree trimming around power lines.
  • Other assignments as directed by the Lead Lineman or the Director of Public Works.

Qualifications

  • Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License and CDL
  • Valid Journeyman Lineman Card
  • Lineman continuing education/safety programs
  • Any combination of experience or training which demonstrates the knowledge and experience to perform the work.

  • Far vision (the ability to distinguish objects clearly at 20 feet or further, with glasses if needed) and near vision (the ability to distinguish objects clearly at 20 inches or less, with glasses if needed). 
  • Peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Night vision (the ability to operate a vehicle at night and do emergency repairs at night).
  • Lifting, carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing up to 100 pounds or more.
  • Handling and manipulating objects with hands; holding, grasping or controlling with hands. 
  • Working with fingers to pick, pinch or press.
