OBJECTIVES

To construct, maintain and operate the underground and overhead electrical distribution system in accordance with RUS Specifications, the NESC and Cooperative procedures.

To respond to the members' needs in a timely manner and to maintain continuity of their electrical service.

To successfully complete all Electrical Line Worker continuing education courses to construct, maintain and operate underground and overhead electrical facilities in accordance with OSHA, NESC and RUS Specifications.

To promote safety in accordance with the policies and procedures in order to maintain safe working habits and conditions.

SPECIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

High school education or equivalent required. Successful completion of the Electrical Line Worker Third Class courses at Trident Technical College, the Overhead Line Construction courses II-IV, Underground Line Construction II course, Advance Line Construction course and Switching course is required; may consider equivalent education and/or training in a similar program.

EXPERIENCE

Successful completion of the Cooperative's Four-Year Apprentice program, plus a minimum of one (1) year as a Journeyman I is required; may consider equivalent experience a the Cooperative or another electric utility. A minimum of two (2) years in the position is required to become proficient.

JOB KNOWLEDGE

Should possess an effective working knowledge of RUS Specifications and Cooperative system, its feeds, switching points and sectionalizing equipment, safety policies and procedures. Use and care of PPE. GIS and mapping system knowledge. Proficient in switching procedures.

ABILITIES & SKILLS

Must have the ability to construct and maintain overhead or underground lines. To operate heavy equipment such as backhoe, line truck, bucket truck, trencher and test equipment. Install underground or overhead switches. Able to teach and train line workers the duties and responsibilities of their job and promote job training. Must have leadership skills and ability to motivate people. Must be able to climb poles. Ability to use tact and courtesy in dealing with employees, members and/or general public. Must possess a valid S.C. Commercial Driver's License with air brake and combination endorsements. Computer skills to operate GIS and mapping system. Leadership and team building skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Outside work in various weather conditions. Regular work hours with some overtime and extended workdays due to "on call" or emergencies. Some overnight travel involved. Climbing, stooping, bending and lifting of heavy objects up to 100 pounds required. "On call" rotating schedule.
