This is the highest of a multi-step progression from Apprentice Lineman to Journeyman Lineman. As a Journeyman Lineman, you will install, repair and maintain overhead and underground electrical power distribution systems and auxiliary equipment. The Journeyman Lineman will maintain the electrical system and provide high quality customer service while working with the public, other departments of the utilities and city and outside agencies. This position also directs and supervises Apprentice Lineman and coordinates the activities and operations of the Electric Operations Division under the direction of the Electrical Operations Manager, Assistant Electrical Operations Manager or Line Crew Foreman.The following duties and responsibilities are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. While performing the duties of this job, the employee typically works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. The employee works in high, precarious places or below grade and is exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud in field settings, and moderately quiet in office settings.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to stand. The employee is required to walk; talk or hear; sit; climb or balance; climb stairs; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and smell.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
