About the Role

Are you ready to start your career in the electric utility industry and be part of a team that powers communities across Texas? Brazos Electric is looking for a motivated Apprentice Lineman to join our Substation Construction Crew in Waco, TX.

In this hands-on role, you’ll work side by side with experienced substation professionals to learn how to build, maintain, and support the critical infrastructure that keeps our transmission system running safely and reliably. You’ll gain valuable technical skills, grow your knowledge of substation systems, and take on increasing responsibility as you progress through the apprenticeship program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support Substation Construction Activities
  • Assist with construction work on de-energized substations under close supervision.
  • Assemble materials, operate, and maintain tools and equipment as required for safe and efficient job operations.
  • Help set forms, place reinforcing steel, pour concrete, wreck forms, and backfill excavations.
  • Assist with the hauling, setup, and energization of mobile substations for construction, maintenance, or emergencies.
  • Sub-assemble substation components and equipment on the ground.
  • Support Lineman-Construction personnel by providing necessary tools and materials, including work on structures and in aerial lifts.
  • Learn to climb steel towers and poles, performing tasks as part of the crew under supervision.
  • Learn to operate various pieces of construction equipment used in substation construction and maintenance.
  • Perform aluminum welding when qualified and certified by the Crew Foreman.
  • Learn and follow all Brazos Electric safety rules and work practices, ensuring full compliance at all times.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent certificate required.
  • Must be able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within six (6) months of employment.
